JAKARTA – The COVID-19 pandemic has not only had an impact on public health, but has also created a worldwide economic crisis. The biggest impact is felt by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and private workers.
Not a few of the office employees were sent home during the COVID-19 pandemic. To find additional sources of income, they began to use platform digital and delivery services especially at GoFood.
Based on research data from the Demographic Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (FEB UI), during the COVID-19 pandemic there was a new increase in Go-Food partners since March 2020. But unfortunately 43 percent of them do not have sufficient business experience.

“It is clear that the culinary business is an alternative source of income for people who have lost or experienced a decrease in income during the pandemic. The existence of a digital economy ecosystem such as Gojek makes access easier for budding entrepreneurs,” said a researcher at the Demographic Institute of FEB UI, Dr. Alfindra Primaldhi in a webinar, Monday, 3 August.
Alfindra explained, as many as 71 percent or the majority of new partners who have joined the GoFood service feel that the COVID-19 pandemic has choked their monthly income. LD’s research shows how GoFood is an economic buffer for those whose income has been affected by the pandemic, especially these private employees.
“Starting a digital business during a pandemic, this is a strategy or a good business choice for MSMEs,” added Dr. Alfindra.
As many as 88 percent of GoFood partners feel helped by Gojek to survive. This is because the use of Gojek technology and training assistance is also easy to obtain information.
From this data, new partners who joined during the pandemic experienced increased skills in selling online, marketing innovation, utilizing social media and recapitulating online transactions. Therefore, the majority of MSMEs plan to continue partnering with Gojek in the long run even though the pandemic is over.
